Jonathan Wallace’s Story- The Facts
Jonathan was officially the ‘fattest teenager in Britain’ at the age of 18, weighing in at 31st.

Jonathan is not considered to be clinically obese, he is deemed to be morbidly obese. Jonathan and his family live in Hartlepool, an area in North East England where obesity rates are above the national average. Jonathan's health is badly affected by his weight problem. He had torn ligaments in his legs on a number of occasions, his knee and ankle joints were becoming prematurely worn, and suffers from sleep apnoea.

Jonathan's mother Margaret made a very public cry for help. She arranged to appear, with Jonathan, on the Trisha Goddard Show in the hope that this would make Jonathan aware of just how much he was risking his life.
It was his doctor that finally brought the message home. The excessive weight and the sleeps apnoea are putting a great strain on his heart, and his doctor has given him five years to live if he doesn't address his weight problem.

In August 2006, Hidden Lives produced a documentary about Jonathan, Britain's Fattest Teenager broadcasted on channel 5. The documentary explained the problems facing Jonathan in his fight to live and the negative attitude Jonathan had relating to trying to help himself loose weight, viewers very extremely concerned by the programme.
This shocked Jonathan into seeking help. In result, Jonathan had invasive surgery to bypass his stomach and reduce his calorie intake. The gastric bypass procedure effectively reduced the size of the stomach by bypassing food through part of the small intestine. This results in less food being absorbed by the body.

Despite his decision to undergo surgery, Jonathan made no attempt to change his routine. A typical Saturday night's clubbing will see him drink a half bottle of vodka and 10 pints of beer. With the impending surgery, he
should not be drinking at all. Jonathan, who got so breathless he needed oxygen in his sleep to keep breathing, said: "I was shocked when I heard how long I had left to live.

At this point Jonathan needed extra help. He decided to contact Active Enterprise and apply for the Active Lifestyle scheme. As a result, we have provided Jonathan with a new life. Thanks to us, Jonathan receives full health club membership at his nearest health club, continuous support and guidance on training, diet and nutrition, in addition 1-2-1 personal training is delivered to Jonathan ion order for him to loose weight and live his dream.
